christian_guchs_netcommons_workshopThe workshop was held in London on July 8th, 2016

The purpose of the workshop was to stimulate discussion on theoretical and historical issues of alternative communication networks and media technologies and link these with practical cases drawing on the participants’ experiences, aiming to map the historical precedents of alternative communication networks and alternative media. The participants in the event were the CNRS and Univ of Westminster netCommons teams, as well as some outside experts based in the UK. The workshop involved three parts: firstly, a theoretical presentation and discussion about what makes a communication medium alternative; secondly, a presentation of cases of alternative media networks by the CNRS team; thirdly, an open discussion with outside guests drawing on their experience of alternative media networks and the relevant opportunities and challenges.
